Who this policy covers
This policy explains how the Engra app (“Engra, ” “the app,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use it on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It is provided by Stewart Moreland, the developer of Engra.
Information we collect
We do not collect personal information. Engra has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not operate a backend service that receives your content or usage data, and we do not maintain logs about you.
The content you create or import — notes, documents, web snippets, images, tags, and collections — is your data. It is stored on your device and in your personal iCloud, as described below, and is not transmitted to us.
Where your data lives
Your content is stored locally on your device and synchronized across your own devices using Apple’s CloudKit in your private iCloud database. This sync is handled entirely by Apple and governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud data. There is no Engra-operated server in the middle.
On-device intelligence
Engra’s AI features — summaries, suggested tags and titles, action items, and the “Ask” question-answering experience — run on your device using Apple’s Foundation Models. Your notes are not sent to us, to Apple’s servers, or to any third-party AI provider to generate these results. You can turn AI features off entirely in Settings.
Search
Search is powered by a meaning-aware index that is built and stored locally on your device (using Apple’s Core Spotlight). Your search queries and index are never uploaded to us. You can rebuild the index at any time from Settings.
Third parties, advertising, and tracking
Engra contains no third-party SDKs, no advertising, no cross-app tracking, and no analytics services. We do not share, rent, or sell any information, and there is nothing to share because your data does not reach us.
Your choices and controls
You remain in control of your data at all times. In the app you can:
- Turn AI features on or off.
- Rebuild the local search index.
- Delete all local data from a device while leaving your iCloud copy intact.
- Permanently delete all of your synced data from your private iCloud database (with a confirmation step).
You can also manage the underlying iCloud storage from your device’s iCloud settings.
Children’s privacy
Engra is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — including children — because the app collects no personal information.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change in a future version (for example, if an optional feature relies on a new service), we will update this policy and revise the “Last updated” date above before that feature ships.
